Spring Bulbs unplanted! - What to Do?

Hi, I have just been sorting out my gardening items and have came across Crocus, Tulips, Anemone and Allium bulbs !! bought late last year but I had put them away to plant at a later date, however with lots going on the have been overlooked

What can I do with them now? Its too late to plant, could they be stored until next year?

Gutted really, wanted spring plants in some of my pots.

I'd chuck 'em in. They might flower later than normal this year, but reset themselves next year. I wouldn't risk storing them personally

Plant them. If you try to store them they will either rot or shrivel to nothing.

^^^^ what they say...rescue what you can- you'll be surprised by what will survive.

Mine went in early January and I'm not really expecting flowers on them , but they should do well next year.
Having said that they may flower very late but the flower heads won't last long cos they prefer the cooler weather.

Another vote for sticking 'em in....if they don.t flower this year they'll do it next

The flower bud may have already formed in the bulb? if they flower this year - albeit probably late - I would take the flower off, when it appears, so the bulb can concentrate on getting maximum strength back for next year.

Thanks for the advice, Iv 'Stuck them in' today and will see what happens.

Due to my limited space for sun and no garden, I want to grow salad and veg in pots this year, should I leave them in the pots until next year or can I collect the bulbs and then use the pots in summer. I did read of someone planting Tulips and crocus ect leaving them in and planting summer flowers in the same pots.

Think I'd leave them in if I were you Marie, especially since they've gone in late. I did exactly the same as you by the way - bought dozens in the autumn, and have only just planted them.. poor things were sprouting in their bags.. I'm not sure at what stage they'd stop trying to grow, but if they don't have any nutrients from the soil they'll just feed on the bulbs and they'll die eventually, and I'm fairly sure they won't have gone dormant by the time you're ready to plant your veg and salads in there.
