I'm a veg gardener myself, but my mother is a flower person, so today DS and I planted up a 20-section windowsill greenhouse with night-scented stock and sweetpeas in the hopes they'll be doing their stuff by Mother's Day so we can give her the whole thing as her present. The sweetpea seeds were from our garden where they grow wild, but Mum always struggles to get sweetpeas to germinate, so fingers xxed these will obey!

The sweet peas don't want to germinate I'm going to give them another week (it will then be three weeks) then replace them with something else quick to germinate so that I have a fully tray of seedlings to give her!Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

This is such a lovely idea, and in fact I'll steal it.
My inlaws would love nice seedlings and we're visiting in 4 weeks! Perfect!

Also, you could still get a pack of sweatpeas from the shops!
To speed up germination you can soak them in lukewarm water for a few hours and then put them in a plastic sandwich bag with some most paper towels for a day or two. You should see them swell up and sprout a little and can them put them in your prepared modules.

Thanks batman - I wish I'd tried that. In the event the Morning Glory have started to germinate well, so I'm going to nurture those for Mother's Day. The Night-Scented Stock have now been potted on into a pretty pot and will make a nice present, albeit not quite what I had in mind at the outset! Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
