Climber for Shade

Can anyone recommend a climber for a fence that's in shade for most of the day, apart from very early in the morning.

Its also going to be grown in a container.

Looked at Virginia creepers but they get to big, as the garden is very small.

Japanese quince will tolerate shade

Climbing hydrangea is lovely, you could also look at shade loving clematis.

Honeysuckle and jasmine.

Lapageria rosea - absolutely stunning in shade and slightly acidic soil, though you'd need to be in a reasonably warm area (about -5 lowest).

Don't forget there's some roses that will tolerate shade for most of the day..

Mme Alfred Carriere & Iceberg are two white ones that I know of.

I don't think it's boring. On the contrary, it's a marvellous 'multi-purpose' plant. Will grow virtually anywhere, very hardy, interesting all-year round foliage and it makes a great nesting site for the smaller garden birds...

I have pyracantha, clematis & passion flower on my north fence, doing well. Clems & passiflora like cool roots but heads in the sun, so they tend to flower at the top of the fence

My east facing wall has a very vigorous Iceberg climbing rose on it, so that's another.
