Marigolds

Hi everyone

My marigold seeds sown in seed trays, about three weeks ago, haven't sprouted yet. They're outdoors in a mini three tier greenhouse. Is it too cold for them? Are the likely to come up when the weather warms up?

Yes and possibly... How old is the seed and has it been kept dry?

My 1st batch didn't show but the 2nd lot were through I think within a week or so. Play safe & sow some more.

I can't really see it being too cold for them as I've got millions coming up in the allotment without any help (last years went to seed) and the few plants I didn't dig up at the end of last summer are not only still alive but flowering well.

which flavour of marigold have you sown? Different varieties have diff. requirements

pot marigold or tagetes? I can grow pot marigold all over the place but everytime i try tagetes ...nada...so have given up - dont like them anyway except as sacrificial plants.

My pot marigolds were up in two weeks.
Outside in propagator in a blow away greenhouse.
Not sure what variety they are.

I've had a check and they're French Marigolds.

I've just been out to the blow away greenhouse and noticed two have sprouted. Maybe they're finally on their way...

They're French marigolds, so yes it is too cold. You'll see on the packet they're labelled as half hardy annual, which means they don't tolerate cold, at all.

You'll have better success if you sow them indoors on a windowsill, pref. in a heated propagator.

Start them off indoors first, then pop them in your outside greenhouse. Mine came up within a week.

Thanks again everyone. I've had about 15 come up. I'm going to sow some more tomorrow but leave them indoors until they start to show.
