Pelargonium cuttings

Hi. I took 5 cuttings last August and the plants are going great guns now, in full flower and about a foot all round in size. I was wondering if anyone takes cuttings this early and do you reckon with all the good summer growth ahead you could see flowering by the end of the summer?

This should be a great time to take pelargonium cuttings, particularly if you take fresh young growth. There is no reason why with a good rooting medium and some care you should not have flourishing and flowering plants by later in the season.

Do remember that pelargonium cuttings do not like to be kept damp like many other cuttings and you are more likely to lose them to rot than to drying out. I would use a mixture of sand/vermiculite and seed compost, and stand the pot in a shallow saucer of water. Don't put a poly bag over them or mist them but just keep them out of full sun; a shady spot in good light will be fine.

I do the same. My only real restriction is how much room I have to overwinter them in.

I usually take cuttings in spring or in August.
I did some last month and they were fine, so I would be happy to have a go now if I needed to.

I took 8 and 1 month later they are all rooted, potted up and most have a flower stem formed
