  • Lupins in pots for now.

Hi everyone, I have been a bit premature and ordered loads of perennials before OH has finished making the beds for them. The first of theses have arrived, bare root lupins If I put them into square planters now will I be able to transfer them to the bed in about a months time, they are bare root plants arrived yesterday.(I wanted to pot them up individually but B&Q have run out of plant pots) should I pot them up individually. I am really trying not to buy any more pots as money is a bit tight
It should say lupin dam auto correct!

I would pot them up individually as you had intended. Is B&Q your only source of pots? Ask a neighbour? Freecycle? Other garden centre? If you plant them all together in a planter, if I am interpreting right, you'll have to disturb the roots again when you do plant them out. What ever you do they need to be in soil ASAP.

Funny you should say that. I've had a lupin root stock (birthday present) potted up for some weeks without any activity.
Yesterday I was quite literally on my way down to dump it - the thing has only started sprouting! So it stayed.
I will probably keep it potted. I've no room in the garden and I find here that they attract bullfinches who delight in eating the seeds. The bullfinch is my favourite bird so I'm pleased about that.

Thanks every one, out of the 15plants only 5 were salvageable, the crowns were rotten on all the others. When I rang and spoke to the suppliers Van Meuwan, they immediately refunded my money! So have planted in pots.
