  • Leggy tuberous begonias

Hi - I went all out this year and bought a lot of begonia tubers of various colours. I'm relying on these for my beds in the back garden this summer.
I started waking them in February and they have come on well, some quicker than others. But despite my best efforts, some, especially the ones that woke up quickest, have become leggy with huge leaves and no flower buds that I can see. The leaves would be bigger than your hand, almost hosta like in size. The stems could be 8 - 10 inches tall.
The question is, is this normal or a normal problem that people encounter? Should I cut the stems down to the compost and hope sturdier stems grow?
I think the problem was the usual - lack of light earlier in the year plus they were brought on too close to each other in the greenhouse.
    Thanks for any advise
