Falstaff? - Crimson climber, old english scented. ~10' I think?

I also have Golden Celebration over an archway - deep yellow, that's quite nice too

There are quite a few scented clematis - however I would advise not using the evergreen clematis, C Armandii, mainly because it is so rampant.

The RHS have quite a useful guide on choosing roses.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

My Armandii wasn't rampant, but did put on a good show. If you want rampant, get Clematis Montana. If you don't, don't!

I have a wisteria growing across the front of my home and last year built a porch. The wisteria only needs pruning once a year to get it to flower and does look stunning for a few weeks in May.

To prolong the colour on the front I have planted two "Gertrude Jekyll" roses from David Austin up the porch supports. They are repeat flowing, have a heavenly scent and only grow about 10 ft tall at most so don't take over like lots of ramblers do. Due to the mild winter they have flowered constantly since last spring.

The David Austin website is a good place to start looking as it is easy to reference what you want.

You only prune once? I prune mine in the summer to keep it under control as its so rampant, usually in August and then I also prune in January. Do you just do the summer prune?

I prune it in February Scarlet, it doesn't get pruned per say in summer, it gets a 5 minute lop to keep it out of the gutters and clear of the dreaded sky dish. When I say lop it is just that.

I like the off white mme Alfred de carriere. Repeat flowers, lovely scent and thornless. Got one last year and love it.

My favourite rose is Dreaming Spires. Attractive dark green foliage contrasts with the deep yellow blooms. Flowers continuously throughout the season and has a pleasing fragrance

Wisteria is too vigorous and woody for your purposes It flowers profusely for 3 weeks from late April and sometimes but sparingly in August If the window is only 12' tall go for a 'repeat' climbing rose. They will take 3 - 4 years to mature but you will have have plenty of flowering from year 2 onwards during the summer and early autumn months with the right varieties. If you want strongly scented roses look at these 2 - Compassion which is an apricot pink, Gardeners Glory, which is yellow. Pink Perpetue is a good pure pink climber with a mild scent.

If you want a good looking, but unscented red climber try Danse De Feu, which gets up to around 10' when mature.
