Recently I've made a few, tentative steps into the world of aquariums and fish-keeping.
I acquired a 50 L tank, which I've set up as a tropical environment (freshwater basically, as oppose to a marine tank, which is saltwater).
I've gravel and sand as the substrate, with bog wood for structure, and x3 green leaved plants: Anubias, Cabomba, Vallisneria - all easy, underdemanding plants ideal for beginners.
I set the tank up a couple of months ago, with filters, pump etc. and it's been cycling for a few weeks in preparation for some creatures.
I had a minor set back when I discovered my Cabomba plant starting to turn yellow. Turns out the light I had was the wrong spectrum (a 2nd hand unit from a friend, fine for illumination but not much else). This has now been replaced, and the plant is gradually returning to green again.
There are several plants I like the look of, but naturally some are more picky than others. Adding CO2, fertilisers, monitoring nitrate levels etc is a bit beyond my knowledge at the moment.
So as a beginner, I know I'd find a forum dedicated to growing and maintaining aquarium plants, invaluable. (The only reference to fish would be how they interact with the various plants).
Perhaps it could be extended to cover aquatic plants in the garden; bogs, ponds etc.
What do you think?
