My lupins changed colour!?

I bought some fantastic westcountry lupins and they looked fab last year in the front. They appeared again this year but they have changed colour eg the purple and yellow one is now blue and white!
Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why it can happen? Thanks for any answers.

Are lupins like hydrangeas and change colour due to soil ph? Just a thought

I would guess that the ones that appeared this year were seedlings from the original ones. Lupins rarely come true from seed, they are a promiscuous lot.

Cheers for the responses. I have double checked my labelled plants and the blue and white flower spike is definitely coming off the "manhatten lights" plant. I had a closer look at the flower spikes and I could see faint areas of purple amongst the blue! I am also very careful to remove any seed heads so as to extend the flowering period and to stop ropey seedlings popping up here and there. The soil ph idea is an interesting one and worth investigating further.

You wont believe it but it has continued to change colour. It has turned purple and looks like it will be all purple by the time its finished its transformation.
