If the soil is pretty damp then i will be going with Cyperus alternifolius (Umbrella Grass).

        Umbrella palm

The stuff pops up all around my garden where the soil stays pretty damp.

Yes, sweet violets are lovely, but wood violets, while pretty in flower in spring, then spend the rest of the year sneakily making seeds without ever making flowers and before you know it they are everywhere, in the beds, in the lawn, under the hedge - they take over.

          Endless wonder.

They do look very much the same as Scarlett has posted pictures of.
Once I've been out to get some compost I will wash the roots off and take a photo.

The plants in the original pictures is Carex pendula. They love wet areas but are equally happy in a dry border. They are very invasive so dig it out and don't let it go to seed.

Oh dear, I'd ditch that immediately. If you introduce this invasive grass into your garden you'll regret it.
I'm 99% certain it's the grass a previous reply mentions. It seeds everywhere. I have a huge mound of it in my garden and keep cutting it back as I can't get rid of it!! Be warned!
