How lovely are our weed flowers?

I went for a walk last week with my mam to pick some blackberries, we walked approx 4 miles and I saw some really pretty weeds in flower. Although the plants are nuisances and take over gardens killing the plants that we want there I think they are lovely in the wild. There were loads of white flowers that were similar to calla lillies, yellow daisies and the lovely chicory weed that is growing in my heap of grass cuttings.

I like all wild flowers, I think they are just as beautiful as garden flowers. But I especially love ox eye daisies.

I love vetch ( I think that's what it's called) it looks a bit like sweet pes

I like Teasels they pop up all over our garden, bees love the flowers then when its gone to seed the Goldfinches don't seem to leave them alone.

Very helpful Bren, I did see a few of those when I was out and I had no idea what they were, very alien looking I thought.

I don't think of them as weeds - they're all flowers, just some are in the wrong place.
Have a close look at a dandelion, so many petals and vibrant colour. Then it transforms itself into a fluffy head, each little seed parachute a work of art.
If we didn't know it as a "weed", you could pot them up and sell them as bedding plants.

I must admit the flowers are lovely but I find some of the plants are ugly, the chicory I've got is an awful plant and I was ready to chuck it until it flowered.

There are some beautiful chalk downs nearby where you can see wild thyme, marjoram, toad flax, mullein, thistles, bee orchids, pyramid orchids, knapweed, scabious and many other plants. Glorious.

Actually, one of my favourites is the thistle. A field full of thistles in bloom has a glorious scent, something you don't notice if there's just one or two flowering. The flower itself is really quite beautiful.

I love wildflowers, and usually leave them be if they appear on the allotment. This year the ox eye daisy has dominated, last year it was the purple toadflax. The only unwelcome wildflower I've had this year has been hemlock, which at first I mistook for cow parsley and used in flower arrangements. I've since dug it all out and binned it.
