  • Calendula

    Hello

I saved a lot of seeds from a wild growing Marigold in my garden and wanted to know how and when I should sow them into pots for next year

You could sow some now to give you small plants to overwinter. These will flower a bit earlier than if you sow seed in Spring. Or sow them in Spring, choice is yours. Why not try half and half?

I sowed my calendula seeds and some other hardy annuals about a week ago - I just sowed them in drills at the allotment, and will transplant next spring if they survive winter (I'll put envirofleece over them once the weather turns colder).
Like Wendy says, probably best to hedge your bets and keep half the seeds for sowing next year.

Mine self seeded all over last year so I just let them be. They flowered and grew far quicker than the ones I planted 'properly' so this year I'm doing the same - just letting them get on with it and also gathering seeds to sow next year They really are quite an easy plant aren't they?
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

Same here, I let them do their thing. I treat them as a green manure on the allotment, pulling up the ones that are "in the way" and leaving them on the soil as a mulch

And me, I haven't sown calendula for years, they just keep coming back. I often dig up the ones that are in the way and plant them where I want them.
