Just found this sticky wish i had seen it earlier. I sowed loads of flower seeds this year, cerinthe, rudbeckia, calendula, sweet peas, ( only 4 out of 40 germinated so had to buy seedlings) trailing petunias ( a whole module tray got slugged in one night) sun flowers, cosmos , lavenda, and three others whose labels have washed off. Most are now planted out, just the rudbeckia to go. They have been really slow for some reason.

I've never succeeded with Rudbeckia yet Starting to think they're a bit of a bogey plant for me.
Past couple of days have seen me sow a few more sees in pots and seed trays of common hardy annuals to brighten up the allotment.
23 Teddy Bear sunflowers
packet of Calendula 'porcupine'
packet of French Marigolds 'Naughty Marietta'
Will be stocking up on compost on Monday when I get paid and starting to sow a few biennials for next summer's displayLast edited by Gillykat; 23-06-2016, 06:45 PM.If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

It took three attempts at sowing before I got the rudbeckia to germinate. They are now romping away in the garden. They probably needed feeding. My cerinthe is just about to flower. Never grown it before looks lovelyDogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

I've sown lots of gazania seeds in 10cm flower pots in a peat based commercial potting mix. They usually take about a fortnight to germinate and when they have a couple of long leaves I transplant them into paper coffee cups and water them automatically daily. Last week I sowed gerbera seeds also in 10 cm flower pots. According to what I have read on the internet gerbera seeds have to be planted with the point down. That seems to be nonsense to me as I just scattered the seeds over the surface of the potting mix and then just lightly covered them with more of the mix. To my surprise I have a lot of tiny pairs of leaves emerging from the mix. I'll soon know if they are gerberas and not gazanias as the latter develop long thin leaves while gerberas have very broad leaves.

Not sown but put to chit, 50 seeds of scented sweet pea, 6 named varieties plus some I saved last year. All mixed in together as I never separate them out when planting out anyway. It's probably more than I have room for, but allows for losses along the wayLocation - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

Not today but yesterday evening 50 x dahlia mixed, 50 x dahlia dwarf pompom, 30 x morning glory Grandpa Otts, 50x morning glory Choice Mixed. Straight into seed trays and into the sunny front porch. I'm now thinking they might benefit from some heat at night so will probably pop them in a prop tonight.
