It looks the same on both the apple and the blackthorn. Though the blackthorn is harder to find because (though all the growing guides warn you to) I didn't label the trees properly and I've forgotten where I stuck it. The little green 'poo' shapes are about 4-5mm long.

Well I can only find one on my apple out of some 30 odd berries over several trees two years ago and this is how it looks now.

I remember my dad trying to grow it with no success, I might give this a go later in the year, will it grow this far north I wonder?

It does show a few locations in Scotland where it has been successfully grown, but the map is incomplete.

This is my first year trying. There are some old threads lurking but the jist wasn't so much the technique but rather the host of the mistletoe. If it was on an apple it should go on another apple, if it was on an oak it should go on another oak etc. etc I can't remember if anyone gave a reason though. My seeds now look green with a white casing - so am hoping that is a good thing, they have been on since the beginning of Jan.

My one cousin used to go over to France, pick mistletoe there and bring it back for sale before Xmas. One year something went wrong and he ended up post X-mas with a half a van load of boxes of unwanted decaying mistletoe branches - I didn't mind him dumping them in my garden and have had no problem with mistletoe supplies since then.

Rough estimate - 40 odd kilos of mistletoe resulted in about 10 plants which I've spotted - a lot of the seeds germinated in places like tops of fence posts, where the birds left them. Oddly plums seem like a popular host tree.

There's none in our immediate vicinity, but there's a bike trail nearby where loads of it grows on pine trees. Just offering the info in case someone might find it useful.
