When to plant out sunflower seedling

My giant sunflower seedlings are about 6" tall in greenhouse- do I put them in bigger pots or can I plant them out now. Do they have any special requirements?

My apologies, again, accidentally put in picture while I was playing with attachment button. Still trying to work out adding images. I thought that I would be able to experiment and remove while I had the window open- I took out the text adding image before I posted query but it came up anyway.

Thought that if I edited post that might work but can't remove that way either. It will let me add this apology.

Treat them like other tender plants as regards planting outside,unless you can give them some night protection in case off frost,they should be fine where they are for another couple of weeks,

Hi what size pots are the sunflowers in? If it's a seed module tray I would pot on?

Thanks jj!They are planted 3 to a 5" pot. Have moved to derelict greenhouse that is not so warm but does offer some protection. Weather forecast warm for this week so thinking of planting out and fleecing if necessary.

Thanks for that. Was given a packet of dwarf sunflowers and was planning to stick the lot in pots but now I think I'll try to find some space in the ground for at least some of them.

Many thanks Two- will plant some seeds as well- I suspect my main problem will be their height, they are billed as giant!

I grew some nice dwarf sunflowers last year,they had 3 heads,stems about an inch thick. Slugs ate through the bottom of the stem,made one fall over,I was devastated,such a big loss. I don't mind if slugs take some leaves,but the whole heavy plant was a great loss.

Good grief! That's ridiculous. Okay, I'll go for 50/50 and hedge my bets. On a side note, this time last month I had no idea that there was such a thing as dwarf sunflowers. Live and learn, eh

I planted mine out last week and so far they are okay but they are in a sheltered position. However they were planted out because I was running out of space at home.

That would definitely make you cry-I started the sunflower project with such high hopes!

Mine spends the day outdoors then get moved in the GH overnight.
