  • Flower ID and advice

    Hi All,

Attached - hopefully - is a photo of some flowers that were left on my new allotment. I'm thinking of keeping them, but the flowers have finished now and it looks like it's going to seed, so I've got a few questions if anyone can help.

First question: what type of flower is the blue one?

Second question: will the seeds become a pest and sow everywhere - including neighbours plots - because the seeds look light and fluffy like dandelions?

Third question: do I need to keep seed for next year, or will it self seed, or just grow like perennials?

    Thanks in advance.

    Steven

They look like anemones to me. If so, its a perennial. I have the related anemone blanda, which does self seed but not to a degree which is a nuisance.

They might just self seed if you are lucky. They won't be a pest to you or anyone else. I just love anemones!!!!!!!!

just to confuse the issue.....aren't anenomes grown from bulbs?

Either way, they make great cut flowers in a vase and are one of my favourites!

The ones i have had are cormes, tiny bulbs, did not know they could self seed,so does the self seed grow into a corm,in the same way dhalia seeds grow into roots/rhizomes,

Anemones are grown from corms but the seeds , like dahlia seeds, will eventually form a corm.

It's ok muddled, I have some in my front garden (from corms) and now I have some in the bed by the front door. I haven't planted any there and they are in a weird place, so the seed must've travelled there! So it's a new discovery for me too ha!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

Thanks for the details guys and galls. Good to know they are perennial so can just forget about them for now and presume they'll come back next spring

Might save some of the seed just in case.

You will have to be very patient, it could take some time (years) for them to get to flowering size.

Might just leave them then... Seem happy enough where they are.
