Lavender flowers

Having checked through my phone, this time last year my lavender was in flower. This year as you can see from the picture below, the flowers have still not come out. When I say the flowers I mean the tiny little flowers that come out of the purple bits you can see in the picture.

Just wondering, why would it be in full flower this time last year and still not this year?

We had a very very mild winter last year followed by a mild March and April. Frost damage was minimal, and many plants we treat as annuals, such as pelargoniums carried on for a second year here. This meant significantly earlier flowering than is normal. This year though winter was a bit colder and the temperatures have been a bit more temperamental (and all the annuals died in the frosts)

Everything in my garden is about 2 week behind last year at the moment, but appears to be catching up rapidly.

I have opened my garden for some years for a 'village open gardens'. I always therefore photograph it the same weekend each year and the difference in what can be out,dependent upon the preceding wether,can be marked.

If its any consolation yours are way ahead of mine and I liive in sunny Devon. It seems like we have been having nice weather but night time temperatures have remained stubbornly low.

My Papilion lavander is in full flower but the english lavander is way behind?

im thinking of buying some hidcote lavender plants how long do these flower for please as i have never grown lavender of any type before

I didn't have one frost last spring! This year I've had to bring my toms in most nights and the difference in growth rate is huge.

When the flowers fade,you can deadhead them & they re-flower,but not sure on the length of flowering? The other day a starling was pulling at my lavender,finally pulled off a twig & flew up to his nest,in my roof,so I don't mind,least it will smell nice They're clever really,it must keep the bugs away.
