Rejuvinating a weigela

I got 2 weigelas this morning for 50p they are a bit woody and leaves are quite small.
What can I do to help them out, all I know is that they need repotting.

Weigelas are tough, hardy plants that are quite happy to re-grow from old wood.

I would plant them out or re-pot them now, then do some gentle trimming next summer after they have flowered and settled in. If you still feel the need for more structural pruning, I'd do it next winter.
