I want to add some colour to the allotment but know even less about growing flowers than I do vegetables

Below are a couple of pictures of the area that needs planting 8 mtrs 2.5 mtrs.

I would be really intrested in your views on what would give me colour over an extended period, I shall plant crocus and daffs but any good perennial plants you can suggest?

the soil under the rubbish and weeds is pretty good.

I vote dahlias they are as easy or hard as you want to make them. Vast choice of types and colours and can be grown from seed. Bees and butterflies love them and you can cut them for home. Yes there is a drawback well two in fact. Emerging shoots could do with protection from slugs and two - keep seeds to cover winter losses.

Hi Greenleaves, if youre planting it up now see if you can get wallflowers in the farden centre to go in with your daffs. They give a lovely display in late spring and have lovely perfume.
You could put in Lupins, Roses, any of the Daisy family, Lillies, Dahlias and Chrysanthamums.
There are lots more but these are just a few that come to mind.
You could also elge your flower bed with Lavender.

Anything that attracts bees and butterflies (not white ones).
I like self seeding annuals, like cerinthe, calendula, aquilegia and honesty (OK its biennial). You can probably get away with sowing some now to overwinter and flower next year.
