  • Daff bulbs and wood chip.

    Hi,
Hope this is in the right section if not please feel free to move it

I have got three raised beds down the allotment that I am going to put some daffodil bulbs in. Have got 90 of them so I am hoping for a good 'happy' display in the spring.
I was thinking of getting them planted and then putting a thin layer of wood chip on to a) keep the weeds down a bit and to hopefully keep the mice off them.
I'm wondering will the bulbs be ok with the wood chip on as it rots down? I'm sure I've read it somewhere that the woodchip can alter the Ph in soil.
    Thanks

Wood chip will only change the ph of the soil if it is dug in so the bulbs will be fine. Don't put too thin a layer on the top of the soil or it won't keep the weeds down they will must grow through.
