Flowers still in bloom.

Just been having a look around the garden after the very cold weekend and have been very surprised to see so many flowers still in bloom.
Summer bedding Begonias, Lobelia, Geraniums, Pansies, Fuschias, French Marigolds and of course Dahlias.
I would have thought the frost would have killed them but they are still going strong and this is a north west facing garden.

I was just thinking the same thing today Bramble. Still flowering in my garden are roses, snapdragons, erigeron karvinskianus, ox-eye daisy, a little rockery campanula which has been flowering since spring, various geranium, calendula and lobelia. Maybe the most surprising of all are sweet pea matacuna plants, which I'd left to collect seeds, but they're still producing new flowers.

We've had a few very cold mornings here, but not enough to frost the car windows....when that happens I guess the annuals will die pretty quick.

Yes still got some flowers clinging on including some last yellow flowers still on the Rose of Sharon shrub. Most surprising are the roses. We planted a bright pink Pomponella bush this year which OH wasn't all that keen on because it has tight pom pom flowers rather than the traditional open rose - but it has flowered twice and the 2nd flowering is only just dying off now. It's really given a terrific burst of bright pink in the middle of two other rose bushes that had stopped flowering way back.

Another rose bush Summer Beauty with pretty apricot colour flowers, photographed below two days ago, was really disappointing in the summer and I was tempted to move it elsewhere. I left it and it has had a very late 2nd flush, better than the 1st.

I bought some winter pansies in for the garden in blue and orange. They're all doing nicely and flowering well. But the cyclamen have been very disappointing and not done well with the wet weather - mostly turning to brown mush. I will buy more winter pansies next year.

I have geraniums (zonal pelargoniums) still flowering in troughs at the front of the house. Shame really as the frost will nail them

But, isnt it great to see them blooming and adding colour this time of the Year.

It's 19th December and I've just picked a bunch of ox-eye daisies from the garden.

Noticed my pot of alpine strawberries is covered in flowers ...

One of the camellias is in full flower. Really brightens the winter up, A second one is just starting to flower.
Fuchsias, that seem to flower 12 months of the year.
Pineapple sage (Salvia elegans) covered in vivid red flowers - gorgeous.
Sweet Williams, wallflowers, begonias, pansies, vinca, double feverfew.

A friend just posted on book face his lotty pics, full of daffodils. Amazing, as were his leeks, sprouts, cabbage and parsnips.

Took some photos today of my plants that are still in flower. Geraniums,one nasturtium & nemesia. One other nasturtium suffered with the frost a few weeks ago but this potted plant on the patio has some healthy new leaves on it.

Martin, the blue daisy is Swan River Daisy as far as I can tell.
