    Evening all

    You know some times you have those moment's of madness (perpetual state of mind for some of us), well I had one the other week when ordering discounted flower bulbs, daffs, iris, crocus, narcissi and tulips. Today whilst being dragged around the shops a delivery arrived...1325 bulbs

    So here's where I need advice, I was thinking of just scattering them on the ground and digging them in,
    I dont want formal planting so the plan appeals to me.

    Does it really matter what way up you plant bulbs?

    Q How many nutters does it take to plant a bulb?
    A = x

    IMO it would be better to plant them the right way up, otherwise they're going to have to turn themselves - and that's exhausting for a bulb.

    A 1325x

    Good luck

        I admire your patience, Greenleaves. I planted about a hundred crocus and snowdrops in the lawn a few weeks ago. Started off putting them in singly, but ended up putting 3 or 4 in each hole. And I wasn't even making proper holes, just pushing the garden fork in, easing the turf up a bit and shoving the corms down between the prongs.

        Even if you can plant six a minute, which sounds fairly fast to me, you'll be out there for a couple of hours.

            If they are going in turf, I usually cut round three sides of a square and lift the turf, like peeling open a tin of sardines. Then I spread the bulbs and put the turf back.
