Begonia question

Howdy
My wife bought half a dozen packets of Begonia bulbs from wilkos for her hanging baskets.
Now i dont particularly want to plant them straight into the baskets now so.............

Could i plant them in three inch pots in the g/h and then transplant them later on into their baskets?

Yes, that works fine. You do have to be careful when you repot them into the baskets, 'cos the stems of the shoots are quite stiff, but brittle, and it's easy to knock them off, and they'll snap off right at the tuber, so all that growing time is lost and the tuber has to re-grow shoots.

But on the plus side, if you do knock off a shoot, you can shove it in compost and most times it will grow

When I grew begonias, I knocked off shoots so many times (mostly from letting them get too long before repotting) that I gave up starting them in pots, and started them straight in baskets. Then later I'd knock off shoots attaching the chains and hanging them up.

I put mine in a seed tray cover with compost put them in a warm place then when its ok to plant out pot them up

You can also start them off in a plastic bag of damp compost. Then when you see them start to grow you can plant them up in your hanging basket.
