Mine have been in the unheated greenhouse since they germinated around end of September.like Big Mally said pinch out the growing tip when the time is right. Mine are growing so fast now.

So what happens when you do that? Pinching off the top I mean. I've never done that. Just shoved a seed in and let it do its thing. What does pinching the top,off do ?
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
When you pinch off the top of the plant (the growing tip) the plant will then branch out and throw side shoots making it more bushy, rather than just one long stem.
Hope the description helps.

Pinching the top out stops the vertical growth completely or just delays it? I've only pinched the top of runner beans when they have reached the height i want them.
Pinching the top out forces it to put out new branches from the leaf joints. These are always thicker and more vigorous than the one you pinched out. Then it's up to you, you can either let all the new shoots grow to get lots of flowers, or remove all but the strongest single shoot to get fewer flowers with longer stems.
