Newbie with a peony question!

Hi! As very much a novice gardener I wondered if anyone could give me advice on taking cuttings from a peony bush. Is it possible to do this? If so, how (I did say I was novice!) and when would be the best time?

hi, just did up the tuber and split it, then replant and you will have two, im hopeless at cuttings but this works with peonies.

If it is a tree paeony then you cannot take cuttings at all. They are normally grafted onto a rootstock in the same way as rose bushes are.
As said if it is a herbaceous paeony then dividing the root is the way to propagate them.

I understand that peonies don't like being disturbed, so you may well find that both halves may take a year or two to flower again.

gardentwig - make sure you don't replant them too deep - they'll sulk and not flower. that goes for herbaceous ones at least, as opposed to tree peonies which you're meant to plant deep to keep them happy.
