Poinsettias

Back in November, another thread got tangentised into a bit of talk about poinsettias and I posted this pic of one I'd kept going from the year before, just starting to turn, and I wondered if I ought to try and give it 12 hours complete darkness as per received wisdom from various sources.



Well, it was too big to do that really, so I didn't, and it still turned beautifully red, not quite for Christmas, but by mid Jan certainly.

This is it today.

I love poinsettias, but have never managed to keep one alive much past xmas.

Thanks, Lisa. I didn't do anything special with it, it just sat on a sunny windowsill all year and I watered it when it got dry, plus a bit of plant food once a month or so. It really looked after itself, haven't even repotted it.

well done you and the plant,will try that with mine,maybe they are put into the dark to hold them back,so they are red for the seasonal rush.

Gosh...well done! That's really impressive!
I'm afraid I'm one of the gifted few who manages to keep bunches of flowers longer than a pontsettia....they always die on me!

You would not be jealous of the PT at the moment, i will take photos at the weekend, it all started last year with really bad winds.
Trust me i think 40% of everything i grow fails in some way
