  • How many of the same flower to you plant together?

    Just curious.

As I am patiently (not!) awaiting the arrival of my garden ready perennial plugs I am working out if I should clump all the flower plugs of one together which is 6 or split them into two groups of three. And if I spit them if I keep them in the same border/area or have in the other. I know each to their own, easy enough to move and I'll probably just do whatever on the day they arrive, but on a wet day when I am tidying my mind wonders outdoors.

Depends on how large they'll be when they're grownups
    Usually odd numbers, 3, 5, 7 but you could put 6 together in a triangle - with rows of 1, 2, 3.
Well, I know what I mean

I was thinking about the odd numbers look better thing. I do like the idea of the triangle.

I think that the odd numbers rule can be bent, especially if they're something really fluffy like nepeta (catmint) that will grow together.

I would keep them together in one bed first off, then you can really appreciate them to their full effect and decide later if you want more. Then buy/propagate to your hearts content.

Whether to split into two groups or keep as a drift, it's hard to say without seeing a plan of the beds. When I can't decide, I flip a coin.
