  • Plastic Flower Pouch

I bought a pair of cheap flower pouch from Wilko, not the thicker reinforced one that retails at £2 and over per bag. I tried filling one with homemade garden compost but it was way too heavy that the plastic handle/hook started to stretch so I pulled out all my plants and potted them instead.

Am I right in thinking that the cheap plastic flower pouches are no good at all or is there a way, one can make it work e.g. use a lot less soil or light compost etc.

I think you gets what you pay for. Mind you, I didn't get on very well with the higher quality ones either, found them hard to keep effectively watered but suppose that wouldn't be a problem this year.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've got five tumbling tomatoes in mine from Wilkinsons the cheap pack I filled it with potting compost and I have over 50-60 tomatoes currently on the bushes.

I used one for pansies ... the top ones grew well but the ones lower down the pouch just never got watered properly...the water would pour out the holes. I tried dunking the whole thing in a water butt, but its a bit of a faff and didn't really work either

I stuck a fruit squash bottle with holes made all the way down right in the middle of my pouch and watered into that. It did get water to the bottom flowers (petunias) but I don't think I'll bother again next year. Far too faffy.

Catch up with my daily doings at http://kaypeesplot.blogspot.com/ and http://kaypeeslottie.blogspot.com/ but wait a while cos these are well out of date ! Don't want to ditch them entirely cos I'll never remember the urls !
