Giant alliums

Do the larger types of flower heads on alliums tend to be smaller the first year the bulb is planted and get bigger in the following few years till they reach their optimum size or should one expect the full potential size the first year? Thanks to anyone who can advise.

I have varying sizes in my garden, I don't think they increase in size year on year. You can expect the large headed types to be full size in their first year imo.
