This has turned up in a pot that had a quince cutting in. Any ideas what it could be?

I think it's a willowherb.

The leaves are longer, lighter and closer together than the willowherb I have. This might sound silly but can you get regional differences? (as the pot came from somewhere else)

Yes, I agree it's rose bay willow herb. the one with the pyramid of flowers.
Perhaps the one you already have is greater willowherb, NG?
