I've taken cuttings of Christmas (and Easter) cactus before. Use a piece of three segments long or so, dry it off on the windowsill until it has stopped bleeding, then pot it up in a damp very gritty compost, just burying half of the bottom segment. Put on a windowsill out of the sun and wait. Keep the compost damp but not wet. Once it starts growing again, it's rooted.

Scary !
My mum repots them but hasn't done cuttings aaaghhhh.
The irony . My mil who cares nothing about plants , kills all indoor and outdoor via wet or drought , bought herself one and me, (hers died ) . I'm completely rubbish with house plants usually. Aaagghhh.
I need to try .
Should I go with cactus compost for safety? Better result?
I will risk say they need no special treatment just bung them in what ever compost as long as it is not too wet. My Nanny always used to have pots where there was the main plant then other bits that had broken off in the same pot
