Late sowing Sweet peas

If I sow some Sweet peas now (late July) will they flower later this year?

I'm going to try any way but I wondered whether anyone else had done so

I've never tried. But I'm afraid my suspicion is that they won't come to much this year but they will be too big to survive the winter.

All I know for sure is that if you let sweet peas do their own thing and self-seed themselves about, they mostly germinate in autumn.

But good luck, I've been wrong before!

I'm with Martin VC, I think they will be about to bloom just as the frost hits

My very vague plan is to grow them in pots that can be moved into the GH in autumn.

I've sown some & they are going great guns.

Will be planted into final big pot soon, they will do ok until the first frosts, which for me late last year was in December.

I already had a packet of seeds availability so thought why not.

When did you sow yours, Seasprout?

I have lots of SP seeds too so nothing to lose by trying.
We only had a couple of light frosts last winter. If I can get a few flowers before January I'll be very happy

A bit lateral but you could try perrennial varieties, but they won't flower until the second season ?, old fashioned/Spenser varieties kept undercover & positioned to get maximum length of winter daylight may produce a bloom for Christmad/New Beer

You never know your luck. The latest I've picked sweet peas was November 1st.

Try under-watering them. Should restrict main growth and get them to flower early.

I have a few pots with canes, dotted around the garden, including one outside the patio door. So fragrant - lovely. They're looking a bit tired now though so it would be good to replace them with some fresh ones and keep the perfume going into winter.
