I did that and replanted but to be honest, the roots were not that tighly packed as if pot bound for a long time. Seemed quite underdeveloped. Suffice to say the plant now has no green growth of any kind so will just be yet another plant for the compost bin.

Bought another from Aldi for only £1.99 but keeping it in it's pot. Not taking any risks as putting in the soil killed the last one. My soil is neautral after testing.Comment

I can't read this whole thread because I don't have time but peat is overkill for Bowler's Mauve, it should be fine in normal garden soil or ordinary compost. I hope the new ones do better for you.Comment

Bowles Mauve is very easy to take cuttings from
, I do a few every year from mid to late summer to ensure against losses in case we have a very bad winter. The video(s) show methods, they are very slightly different that I have used with success. I must confess in the past I have even accidentally broken off a stem when deadheading, too lazy or busy to stop looked around for a pot in the garden with Scented Pinks growing in (as there always in well drained gritty pots and usually Stone trough types) and just stuck it in there with intention of moving it ,forgotten about it and it has rooted of its own vocation with little further care other than normal garden care I've also used these methods for Fuchsia, Hebe, Pinks, and Lavender. Good luck with your new plant- they are one of my favorites as i was gifted one some years ago by a dear friend so are always reminded of her when propogating the original.

I bought another variety last year and kept in pot with garden soil added as they like loam. This year it is getting smaller and smaller and more pale. Ignore the small plant that has seeded in the same pot.
