Ryez-thanks. I downloaded from the apps store 'photo investigator ' as you suggested. The photo of the flower I submitted at the beginning of this thread is size 3.326mb. I don't know if this is big or small??
And the pixel height is 2448 and pixel width 3264.
I'm sorry but that information is beyond me.Last edited by cheops; 27-07-2016, 11:09 PM.

Right, I can see what is happening here. I check my images first and they are auto-resized by the forum by a 0.2 ratio. Cheops image are auto-resized by a 0.1 ratio, which is unfair - it reduces size a lot more! I calculated your camera is about 12 megapixels? (hard to get it right from one image) and pretty descent quality. If the forum was resizing your images at a 0.2 ratio like it does with mine, your images would be the same size with Deano's images before it all went bad (just checked the resolution of his old images 700x500 pixels and calculated yours at 0.2 scaling ratio and compared - yes I am a geek, actually a theoretical physicist...).
So I did the maths, and so far it seems that the forum scales ipad images with a very harsh ratio of 1/10, when it should be scaling all images at a 1/5 ratio (which is reasonable). Now I hope someone in the Dev team can fix that. Or you can tell me what you are using to auto-resize images in the forum.Last edited by Ryez; 27-07-2016, 11:43 PM.

Indeed, just recalculated, your camera must be 12MP, very good resolution. I really hope they will fix the ratio to 1/5 for everyone, it is unfair! Kills all the fun. I could try to help them if they need me to check.
You are welcome, was quite fun to look into all this, a nice break from quantum gravity. I am procrastinating from writing my dissertation!
Correction: 8-12 MP, very hard to say from one image, went with highest possible number!Last edited by Ryez; 28-07-2016, 10:06 AM.

The reason that your photos are being uploaded "small" is that you are running a newer version of IOS on your iPad/iPhone. Its fine on the older versions. @pple change lots of things on every upgrade and don't worry about the consequences!
The rotating problem is also another "quirk" of @pple. You can upload photos on your PC or computer and have similar issues..IMO it's another of @pples gimmicks to get you locked into the @pple brand.
I haven't updated my iPad or iPhone for that reason.
To ensure your photos are uploaded the correct way, crop your photos slightly in "camera roll" a small slice side and bottom/top will stop it.
Photo uploaded via iPhone - not upgraded IOS!Attached FilesLast edited by Scarlet; 28-07-2016, 09:21 AM.

Interesting and thanks Scarlet. As my iPad is quite new I will always have the newer version of IOS. Does this mean admin can't resolve this for the newer iPads? Also if I take a photo on my iPad or iPhone but then upload it onto my pc and then from the pc submit the photo to the forum will the photo be good [like yours].

That makes sense, because yesterday I assumed that the forum resizes all images at the same ratio, which it should, and that the ipad's had a low camera resolution, till I did the calculations and saw that the ipad images were scaled much more than other images. If it is an iOS problem, then then it is not a forum problem and not much we can do from that end. Regarding rotation, editing the image I hear it helps, possibly forcing the forum to read the EXIF data correctly. I will have to search hard for a solution to the rescaling if it is iOS problem... It also might be an Android problem too.
ps:VC's image also looks like it was scaled at a 0.2 ratio, which is about right. If I had the original size in pixels I could check.Last edited by Ryez; 28-07-2016, 10:26 AM.

I'm not sure what happens if you upload via your computer...I always upload via my iphone/ipad. Could you give it a try when you have 5mins?
The forum is always bring "worked" on behind the scenes and when @pple make changes it takes a while for everyone else to keep up. We are expecting a forum upgrade in the Autumn and the software team already know there is an issue with photo quality on the new versions of iOS so I'm very much hoping for a change.
