Dahlia - Collecting seed

I've noticed 2 types of seed heads on the Dahlias, fat and thin,




Will both produce seed?

I've collected seed from one head and that was from one of the fat ones.

I don't know as I don't grow them but if the seed was dry they should be ok.
Bramble saves those every year...wait for her to give you a more informed answer

Jonny, are they two different type of Dahlia plants. They will both produce seeds anyway but I m just interested. I have a mixture of single and double flowered varieties, also cactus. Just mske sure they dry really well or they will go mouldy.
I leave mine on a dish on the window sill until they have dried thoroughly and then pack them in small brown envelopes until the next season.

Hi Bramble - They are Dwarf Double & Mignon and both types have the fat & thin seed pods.

Thanks for the advice on leaving them to dry thoroughly before packing them away.
