Bitter blueberries...

I ordered 3 plants about 2 years ago, they were meant to be sweet I cant remember the name of them though. I ordered them from T&M. I planted them up in acid compost, and fed them acidic feed etc, I got no or very little berries last year to the point I didnt even pic them. This year Ive got quite a few but they are horrendously bitter. Is there anything I can do. I feel like Ive wasted 2 years on them.

Leave them to ripen a bit more?

have they fully turned color and soft,if so they are ready,otherwise wait a bit more,other than that i have no idea,other than have you fed em to much,just a guess,and are all 3 plants bitter,you could however take some along to a nursery together with a pic of said plant and ask,i have never fed mine,just toped up with compost and rain water,sorry cannot help any more.

I've only fed them the once as I forgot about them...I think I will have to take them out and start again. Any ideas on sweet varieties?

Why are you taking them out?

If you don't know what they are, how will you know that you're buying something different?
If you've waited 2 years for these to fruit, you'd probably have to wait another 2 years for the new ones - and may still end up with the same problem.

I've just been doing a bit of goooogling and come up with a few reasons.
Over fruited
Soil not acidic enough
Lack of watering
Too hot, too cold
Not ready for picking ( leave at room temperature for a few days near a banana)

Or it maybe , as you say the variety .
Some are better for jamming.
Personally I'd leave them where they are, review your watering/ feeding policy and buy two different ( from each other) varieties from a different supplier and grow on in pots if you don't have much room.

I certainly wouldn't chuck out the plants you already have...espesh if it's the growing conditions to blame!
Time will tell.
