  • Has anyone tried the hanging basket sweet peas?

I tried these last year and failed dismaly so imagine my joy when my dad asked why he couldnt help me to plant this years seedlings up my cane wigwam! They were so healthy he thought they would do better than the normal ones until I explained that they wouldnt climb (mind you not that my normal sweet peas know how to climb anyway - they just want to wave about in the air!)

Anyway I was so pleased with them when they started flowering and did have a flash of recognition that perhaps I should be deadheading them but time took over and here I am now having returned from hols to find that although the plants havent died off as normal sweet peas would when they have been left to go to seed, they dont have any flowers at all.

Is it worth my limited available time taking the seed pods off now or wont I get anymore flowers now anyway - help much appreciated. Thanks

Ours have grown in the hanging baskets but are really stringy and weak. They have flowered, but not much. I think growing up canes is they west way, and they can be trained.

A coulpe of years ago I grew the variety Cupid Pink from Moles Seeds. They germinated quite well, and I planted them in to containers. They were lovely for a while, and the scent was really nice. The real problem was dead heading. With being so tightly packed together, the flowers and seed heads were difficult to 'keep on top of'.

Grew some once (don't know what variety but Sweetie or something like that rings a bell), wasn't that impressed and haven't bothered since. Prefer the climbing type.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
