Is it too late for planting bulbs for this year?

Now, I realise this might be a question that can only have one answer, but is it too late now for planting bulbs to flower this year?

I have Tete-a-Tete, Pushkinias, Fritillatias, Daffodils, Tulips and various other bulbs, but I never got round to getting any in during last autumn.

Would it be a waste of time to plant them now for a show thus spring?

May as well bung 'em in - they'll do better in the ground than out. Might not get such a good display this year, but they'll be ok next year.

Mine are all still in their bags too!
They will deffo flower if you plant them now.
They may appear later but look normal....or stunted.
Good idea to feed them though once they have flowered so they can bulk up for the following year.

There are at least 2 answers, Yes & No & of course, Maybe!
I still have lots in bags too and will bung, I mean, plant them with great care as soon as I remember where they are
They'll be fine as long as they're not shrivelled or have flowered in the bag

I still have some in bags in spite of planting out >500 in Autumn (new [to me] garden!). I shall plant as soon as I can get out there.

I also still have a bag of daffs and a bag of tulips which will be chucked in this week somewhere. Sprouting in the bag so they've got to go in.....

Hi. Are we talking about new bulbs bought in this season or bulbs that are 1 or 2 years old?
I am asking because I have some bulbs - mainly tulips - most 2 years old. The first year I put them in the soil - then the second year they were in large tubs. I left them on the lottie in full sun until they died down. The bulbs look quite small with lots of baby bulbs. Is it worth planting the small bulbs - they are trying to shoot and look clean and healthy, just small in comparison to new bulbs. I have removed the baby bulbs - and am thinking of planting the bulbs but maybe remove any flowers this year - feed them well and see if they bulk up. I did water them when they were in the tubs but did not feed them - they were in good compost. Any thoughts please?

My thoughts are you should plant them all. Dont plant the small ones quite as deep as the larger ones. They may not all flower this year but its worth a try. Good luck.
If they weremine I wouldnt tske the flowers off.

Hi bramble - thanks. Since I posted I have managed to Google some useful information - seems to be all about which tulip variety you plant governs whether they will do well over many years. Darwin for example. I have planted the bigger ones anyway and also bought a few Darwin bulbs to see what they are like. Some of the on line bulb suppliers are selling off their stock at bargain prices so have not had to spend too much.
