White top pitcher

Hello all while growing things to eat I thought I should branch out to a few flower to help the bee etc....

Now I think I have bitten off more than I can chew having brought some Sarracenia Leucophylla (White Top Pitcher) link of picture below. Just for a bit of fun really but now I have read through instructions I'm not really sure what I have let myself in for. Anyone grown and managed to get it to germinate or grow on successfully?

Right, don't panic. You need very fresh seed. Surface sow the seeds onto wet peat. Just peat with perhaps of lime free sand is fine.

You need to only water your seed tray with rainwater, and keep your seed tray in a drop of rainwater so it stays wet.

A plastic propagator lid over the top is handy.


Germination is variable timewise.

Thank you very much serves me right for looking at a picture and saying 'that looks nice'......

I will hence forth give it a go, you never know. Did you manage to germinate before any joy? Seeds are so small ha ha what a nutter I have been.

Is there something else other than peat you would suggest? After reading about peat on the net (sorry new to gardening) I am a little wary, interested if you or anyone has something else that they use now...

I have read about Ericaceous Compost or whether I would get away with using my homemade compost with sand? Lots of questions sorry...
