I didn't think my seed grown dahlias would be back this year,I didn't really mulch them,chopped up some marigolds over them,I don't know why one plant looks huge & there's a couple of gaps like a couple of plants didn't make it through the winter,gaps for edibles maybe tomato,this is them today the blue around them is ceanothus petals-Location : Essex

No you don't have to move them at all,just cut them down. I left about an inch of stem in the ground then mulch over it,you can chop & drop old plants like runner beans & peas to use as a mulch if you want. My runner bean plant (celebration variety) has come back for its third year like perennials do,in the autumn I cover the roots with the chopped up vines & leaves,but you can use any mulchLocation : Essex
