hi iv'e found some seeds in a bed on the plot that iv'e took over ,can anyone addvise how I grow them ,do I crack the shell off or just plant ?atb Dal.

Just plant them. Nasturtiums are one of these self seeding flowers

Just plant them. Leaves, flowers and fresh seeds are all edible with a mustard like flavour.

Yes, just stick them in. Half the time I don't even bother sowing them properly. I just poke them in with my finger, & sometimes just throw them on the ground or at a pot. I had some flowering from a partially rotted tree stump last year when I spilt some!

As everyone else says plus they prefer poorer soil so no need to fertilise.

If you have space undercover you can sow now for earlier flowers. Frost will kill them though, so if you're sowing outside you're best holding off.

There were 2 tiny seedlings on my plot today. I was so pleased to see them I squeaked. They are a sign that Spring has properly arrived.

I planted nasturtiums last year and they flowered. From what I remember of nasturtiums they produce large seeds after flowering. I didn't see any seeds whatsoever. Now I have nasturtiums in flower popping up all over the garden.

Boatsman the seeds are about the same size as peas I've sown some indoors but I know in a months time I'll find them growing from self seeded ones all over the garden just like yours.

My nasturtiums are flowering and producing seeds in clumps of three. When can they be harvested? They are now green. Do they have to change colour and texture before they are ready to be saved? Any advice appreciated.

Boatsman if I'm saving the seeds for next year I wait until they've changed to a brown- grey colour, if you wait until a few have fallen off you know that they're ready.
If I want them the pickle I do that when they're green.

Nasturtiums were everywhere on my plot when I took it over last year.. Except I didn't know and was merrily sowing seeds in all the beds and then the blasted nasturtiums came up and ruined my hopes of vegetables!
