Having to replace a tree in the garden and was hoping for some suggestions of what to replace it with. Need something that's very fast growing as I want to use it as a screen from nosey neighbours. What like something that has large pretty flowers. Any suggestions? Thanks

Viburnum tinus? Fast growing, evergreen ,flowers winter/spring & easy to prune into shrubs, standards, multi stemmed trees and not fussy about soil or exposure. Or cherry laurel - really fast growing and again fine for hacking back.

    Another happy Nutter...

Buddleia or Lavatera - both are easy and quick to grow, have lovely flowers and can be hacked back or allowed to grow to whatever height you want.

Not flowery but a non-invasive bamboo is good and you can cut the canes for your beansticks.

I've got jasmine that provides a good little screen,if you want it to spread you can lay a stem down & it roots easily. Clematis have large flowers & there are some you don't have to prune which would provide heavy coverage of a fence etc. I've pruned my ceanothus into a tree shape, its about 15 years old now & umbrella shaped full of blue flowers any day now, because the canopys so wide there's a lot of privacy.
