  • Would cosmos grow when not in full sun?

I have a space I need to fill near a wall, the garden faces south so from midday onwards they would be shded by the wall (although not deep shade, I think). Would this work at all? Thanks.

I grow cosmos in a patch that only gets direct sun in the late evening as the sun is setting, and that's in the middle of summer. The rest of the time (and year) it is in shade. The cosmos lean towards the light, so I find the dwarf varieties that grow to two feet or so do better as the shorter stems keep the flowers upright even if they lean. The tall varieties lean so far they eventually flop over onto the ground.

    Endless wonder.

Thanks, I meant to say north-facing but the same arguments apply, I think. I might give it a try with just a few plants, then.

I have a north facing bed and put a couple of cosmos in there last year. They grew fine, but have not come back up
