  • Saxifraga white pixie going brown

And yet again another plant purchased only last year going downhill when I have done nothing to it. It is slowly going from green to brown. Have kept it in the conditions described on label and haven't fed. I just seem to have a terrible track record of plants dying on me.

What is going wrong please ?

I don't grow these, but my houseleeks do the same if they are too wet on top (rain/top watering)and then in full sun.

No idea if you have had hot weather recently?...nor if it's a similar problem, but just a thought....
    Are you bottom watering?

No, top watering but there is no sun. It says well drained hence why not stood in water.

Could still be too wet. It would also be happier in the ground. You could take a few of the rosettes from around the sides and root them while you try to save the original.

Last time I planted one in the ground it died so not taking any chances.

Did you plant the previous one in the soil or in a gravel path?

Soil with gravel added I think.

Well it died but I managed to get a small section going in gravel pot (same as above) in greenhouse. Tried all methods advised and still going downhill gain. Last time I planted one out in soil (conditions on label) that died so at a loss as to why.

Have you ever thought of having your soil tested to see if there is anything poisonous in it? Something could have been dumped there years ago and nobody any the wiser.....

How do plants grow in your neighbours' gardens? Well or poorly? And around the local neighbourhood?

Fine. I have plenty of plants growing fine so nothing wrong with soil.

Well, that's a relief, I was beginning to believe all your plants turn up their toes and die.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I had three of these type of saxifrages in soil. Two are long gone and the third looks like yours!

I've had quite a few small alpines die. The only ones that survived were various erodiums.
