        • Weird roses!

Help! Some of the roses on one of my bushes have gone very strange. They have what looks like acorn hips growing out of the middle of the bloom! I suppose it could be the rose hip but there are 5 or 6 of them and they are there as the rose opens. What is it?? Could it be a virus?

I've no idea! I have about 25 different roses and can't remember one of their names!! I have 5 rose arches but I must admit the red is the best!

                    • I picked up a reduced Benjamin Britten rose last year which seemed OK last autumn but this spring seems to have a pretty bad case of black spot and is dropping the worst affected leaves. I was a bit surprised because I normally find Austin roses to be pretty good at resisting and at worst having minor cases of black spot. Has anyone else had experience with this variety?

                          • Mine have plenty of leaves, but unfortunately they're covered in greenfly. I'm going to have to get the soapy water spray out tomorrow, because they're awful. The foliage is all sticky and horrible. And only April....

This is a very old bush, trained on a south facing wall.
Doesn't get any particular treatment but just comes back bigger and better each year.

                              • Some of mine now have visible flower buds, but none have opened yet. I reckon around the end of the month might be it.
