Honesty

Can anyone tell me if Honesty will dry out and turn translucent once it's cut? I love it, reminds me of playing in my grandmothers wild garden when I was younger and it now has special significance for me. Dad cut a lot for me from his garden since he knows I love it so much, but it's still purple-green and he seemed to think it would turn - I'm not so sure......

It should do, If it has been cut then stand in a jar or container (no water) - you need to let it dry. Or you could tie it in bunches and hang upside down somewhere airy. I just leave mine in the garden to get on with it - so much so that instead of the one original plant, I now have lots and lots.

'Peel' one side if the pod off the head once it has gone dry and brittle, that will make it lighter and more trasnslucent, quite tricky to do though. I try to leave it in the ground as long as possible to dry, but if you leave it too long it will discolour and get mildewy.

If you just leave it in the garden Sirius some of it will dry well. But since you gave some already cut, tie it into a bunch and hang it upside down in a dry, airy place. It will go translucent then and stand for yonks. I know what you mean about it. Childhood memories and all that. But sentimentality aside, I think honesty earns it's space.

Thank you everyone - I've got the bunch tied and laying on the kitchen worktop in front of the window as we get a lot of sunshine through that room. Perhaps it's too humid in there, I'll move them to another room and see how they get on.

kitchen is way too humid/damp ... have you got an airing/boiler cupboard?

Yes I do, don't know what I didn't think of that! Thanks Two Sheds! Do you think a couple of weeks would do it, or will they need longer?
