  • Begonia cuttings

I had two trailing begonias growing in a container at my front door, as they were very prolific flower wise I was going to keep them and take cuttings in the spring, but when I went to prepare them for storage I discovered vine weevil had eaten the bulbs I put the stems in water till I had time to look at them, while checking them this evening I found new buds at the base I have removed them and put them into vermiculite I also removed any fresh looking stems and put them into water. Has anyone tried doing this in the past and if so was it successful.
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Funnily enough I had a crack at this a few weeks ago - I've got one new plant from a cutting growing well, one iffy one still green and 3 failures. I just used ordinary potting compost and a plastic bags, so quite likely my methods will improve next year :-)

Some of my trailing bits snapped off in the wind, earlier this year. I jabbed them in the ground and they survived.
I'm about to use the same highly technical method of propagation on a snapped wallflower stem - one of last year's plants that I treat as perennials.

So you both think its worth trying, I will need to get my ---- self in gear and get a hot bed ready to keep them frost free
