  • Breadseed Poppies

These have been discussed on an other thread. Not wanting to high jack VC's alphabet thread, thought I'd start again here.

    The short version
Had seeds they didn't germinate ( whole packet ), didn't try again.
After comments on other thread, I had a light bulb moment
Can I sow some poppy seeds I've got in my kitchen ( surprisingly for bread making ) ?

Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Poppy seeds have been going in the bread for at least the last 2 years .

As a side note / question what about linseeds & sesame seeds? ( guess where they go )

Don't know if there's anything in these of relevance - but its time I sowed some poppy seeds too.

I've had a bit of a goooogle and yes, baking seeds for poppies should germinate.

No idea about sesame seeds but they grow up to 2m high!p and need 20-45C hardiness zone.
          21C to germinate.

Make sure you sow them in well disturbed ground outside.

Some trivia-- if you are sending/taking poppy seeds check first as some countries like Singapore ban them.
Also eating bread with poppy seeds can give positive results for opiate tests.

Yes I read something about that. Supposedly at a prison lots of the inmates failed drugs tests. Then they tested the staff and they failed too. Allegedly due to the poppy seeds in the canteen meals.
