Quick reminder for those growing sweet-peas

I moved my seedling sweet-peas to bigger pots a few day as ago and as they were about 6" high I pinched the tops out at the same time, so if you want bushy plants, don't forget to do yours too.

also,the top you pinched off,put in water and roots will develop,hey presto new plant,i have done this a few years back.

Mines only an inch tall so it's something to be doing later on. LD I've never thought to put the pinched of bits into water. thanks

Mine aren’t even germinating yet. Planted 2 weeks ago and still no sign. Don’t know if that’s normal but getting worried.

No real exact number, say 4 pairs but it wouldn't matter if it was more.

Rob mine were sown on the 10th and up to yet around half of them are showing so don't give up on them yet.

Hi Rob,
You don't say where you put your sweet-peas, but if they are in a coldish spot move them somewhere warm, like on a radiator or a shelf above the back of the fridge so they get some gentle bottom heat.

Sounds like they are warm enough then - in all probability they will soon appear. If you want to assure yourself of what's going on you could dig a couple of seeds out with your finger, the roots appear before the tops so you should be able to see if they've started to germinate.

I've had my peas inside, and they have grown quite leggy with the warmth of the room.

Going to pinch out. Any other ways to rescue them?

They are so leggy, that they are about 6" tall, and just at 4 pairs.

Just potted mine on and pinched the tops, in very large pots in the greenhouse( they were hardened off in there in the root trainers.

harden them off gradually if you can, by putting them out in some daylight with protection during the day - a cold greenhouse, conservatory, under bits of plastic sheeting ... then bring them in at night. After 10 days or so of this they can stay put somewhere permanently outside with a little protection eg on a table next to a wall - beware of slugs when they are outside.

Generally sweet-peas are very hardy and tolerant of frost, I had mine outside almost all winter in trays once, when for some reason now forgotten I germinated a load in October.
